Hi everyone! We miss you all, but we are having a great time! The second day of our journey started off with a lovely breakfast. We all got up bright and early and were up and about by 7:45 am. We then ventured out into the lovely town of Nelson to find a spot to do some ice breakers.
We walked from our hostel towards the water to find a park where we were able to play a fun game and, if you didn’t know already family and friends, most of us are very competitive and love to win so there may have been some smack talking, all in good fun of course. We then went over all of the safety protocols in a fun way by acting it out! There definitely are some talented people in the group and it was so fun to see.
Next, we went on an awesome scavenger hunt where we got to explore the city in groups. My group decided we wanted burgers for lunch, so we went to an awesome burger place called Burger Culture. After the burger we decided we wanted ice cream, so we walked down the street and ran into a woman from Michigan! Come to find out Delaney lives in a town 20 minutes over from where the woman was from. What a small world! The woman suggested we go to the center point of New Zealand, so we started the trek. It was the “Most Beautiful Sight” on the scavenger we saw. It was AMAZING and worth the steep 20-minute incline. We met a new friend up there too, a guy from Georgia who we talked to for quite a while. It was so fun to make new friends on our journey to the center of New Zealand. We finally saw the infamous sheep of New Zealand on a hillside, so that was cool. On our hike back down the mountain we stopped for rolled ice cream, and we came to find out later most of the class also stopped at the same shop on their scavenger hunt around Nelson.
The consensus of our group meeting after we all got back from the scavenger hunt was that everyone in New Zealand is super nice and there were definitely fun memories made. Part of the scavenger hunt was to make a haiku so here was our group’s 🙂
We made two new friends
