Social innovation refers to new approaches, strategies, concepts, ideas and organizations that meet social needs of all kinds — from working conditions and education to community development and health — and that extend and strengthen society. Social innovation can also be an initiative, product, process or program that profoundly changes the basic routines, resource and authority flows or beliefs of any social system.
In the Franz Center for Innovation, the focus for Spring 2014 will be on social innovation and the important role it plays in the Portland Metro Area, the state of Oregon, and beyond. Two new Discover Innovation @ UP events are planned for spring semester which promise to bring leaders in social innovation to the university in the new year and throughout the spring. Check this space in January for details on upcoming social innovation events and workshops.
