A Quick Introduction From Leah Becker

Hello everyone! For those of you who might not know me, my name is Leah Becker and I am currently a Junior English major and German minor.  This year I will be interning by creating and updating this brand new English blog! I am very excited to not only be more involved with the English Department, but also to learn more about the part English plays in social networking and public relations.  Since you will be seeing a lot of posts from me, and possibly even working with me by writing pieces for the blog, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you just a bit about myself.

I currently live in Carpinteria, California, however I grew up in Hillsboro (just twenty minutes away from UP) and consider Portland my home.  I studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria last year and got to travel to 13 countries and 27 cities around Europe! Beginning in October I will be working in the Writing Resource Center (come visit!), but until them I am simply focusing on classes, homework, and, of course, blogging.  My favorite color is turquoise, my favorite animal the Koala Bear, and my all time favorite book is a tie between The History of Love by Nichole Krauss and The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.  I also have to give the Harry Potter series a shout out.  Right now my goal is to graduate with my English degree and then go on to get a PhD in 20th Century American Literature.  After that hopefully I will be able to work as a professor somewhere in the Northwest… or Germany.

That’s a bit about me! I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with you all through the blog!

  1. Hey Leah, I am a recent UP graduate as of May 2012. I am currently living in Washington DC as a Jesuit Volunteer and would love to write about my experience as an English major at UP. Can we make this happen?
