As a principal and founder of Thuy Tu Consulting, LLC, a Portland-based consulting firm specializing in transportation planning and analysis for public agencies, private development, academia and nonprofit organizations, Thuy is Senior Transportation Planner/Civil Engineering Project Manager with 20 years of experience and demonstrated aptitude to strategically manage and cultivate positive relationships for civil engineering, transportation/ transit, architecture, urban and environmental planning and construction projects. Thuy holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Portland, a graduate of the University of Washington – Foster School of Business Minority Business Executive Program and a northeast Portland, Oregon native Benson Polytechnic High School graduate of Architecture and Journalism.
As a professor at the University of Portland – Donald Shiley School of Engineering, Thuy teaches upper level engineering students resiliency, seismic planning for the next big Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake due to hit the Pacific Northwest. Thuy serves as the Sustainable Transportation Consultant for the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts and is the professional mentor of project management and civil engineering for the Portland State University Student Chapter of Engineers without Borders USA.
Thuy is a civic commissioner with the City of Portland Urban Forestry Commission (UFC), advocating and advising for urban forestry and citywide canopy. Within the UFC, Thuy chairs the newly formed Geographical Area of Interest subcommittee and serves on the Citywide Tree Planting Strategy committee.
Thuy is an advocate for sustainable, equitable, resilient and livable communities. She serves on the JADE District Steering Committee Member, and is a member of the Community Development Sub Committee and on the JADE Governance Team, a Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative through Prosper Portland. Thuy represents the JADE/APANO (Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon) on the community advisory committee (CAC) for the Division Transit Project in the East Portland communities.
Thuy Tu Consulting, LLC is the recipient of the Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC) 2017 Business Diversity Award, an honor for her efforts in shaping the built environment through outstanding work, leadership, mentorships, community involvement and promotion of industry diversity. The DJC also honored Thuy as a 2017 Women of Vision, an award for her outstanding industry leadership and community involvement along with a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and mentorship.
Thuy is an active member Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Forth (formerly DriveOregon).
