This is the first semester that the Advising Suite in the College will be advising both freshmen and sophomore CAS students, and we wanted to communicate the plan for appointments regarding advising for Spring 2018 registration. With over 700 freshmen and sophomore students needing advising through our office, our Program Counselors will only have availability to meet with CAS freshmen and sophomores during advising season (October 2 to November 15).
If you are a CAS freshmen or sophomore student, please contact our office to schedule your advising appointment for a day and time during advising season. All that you need to bring to your appointment is an idea of courses that you are interested in taking. The Registrar’s Office should be releasing the Spring course catalog towards the end of September/beginning of October, which will give you an idea of courses being offered in the Spring. The course catalog will be available on their website as well as on Self-Serve once it has been released.
For CAS freshmen, if you are a declared major, you are able to schedule an advising appointment with any available Program Counselor – regardless of who is listed as your primary advisor. If you are an Undeclared student, please request an appointment with Katie Richardson. In your appointment, you and the Program Counselor will go over requirements and converse about courses you are interested in taking next semester, any 2nd majors, minors, or plans for studying abroad, and so forth. Once you meet with one of the Program Counselors, we will issue you a registration PIN. This PIN is how you will register for Spring courses and adjust your schedule after initial registration (if necessary). Your Freshmen Workshop class will give you a tutorial on how to register for courses once you obtain your registration PIN.
If you are a third-year Junior or Senior student in the College, or a student in one of the professional schools who would like to meet with one of the counselors in our office, you should schedule an appointment during these final two weeks of September or after Freshmen registration begins in November. Please utilize your faculty academic advisors and/or 2nd major advisors (if you are a non-CAS student with a 2nd major in the College) during the advising season.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact our office. We are open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm in Buckley Center 216. We are also available by phone at 503-943-7221 and, by email, at firstname.lastname@example.org
