Description: Barbara Sorg, PhD, a professor of neuroscience at WSU Vancouver presents how drug abuse especially at an adolescent age creates “rewarding experiences” for the brain, altering its structure and function. Memories are also hugely affected by drug use; thus repeated exposure creates the chronic brain disease of drug addiction. Through her research and laboratory use of animal models Dr. Sorg has a unique perspective on the neuroscience behind the phenomenon of drug use.
