OHSU is excited to once again be able to offer the Oregon Institute Summer Student Research Awards. Here is some more information about this opportunity:
Research Awards
The Purpose of the Research Award Program is to introduce Oregon college students to various fields of biomedical research. Awardees will participate in basic laboratory research or applied research activities. There are periodic seminars for the on-campus awardees related to science and science careers. The awards are sponsored by the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students who are currently sophomore, juniors and seniors attending colleges and universities in Oregon—or who are Oregon residents attending schools Outside Oregon—are eligible to apply. Students may receive an award only one time.
Payment and Award Period
Research award recipients work for a three-month period between May and September. Awardees receive a stipend for their work.
Location of Work
Work is typically performed in the Oregon Institute laboratories on the Oregon Health & Science University Marquam Hill campus in Portland, Oregon. Some work involves field studies (travel paid). Work is carried out under the supervision of Oregon Institute faculty or senior staff. Awardees must use mass transportation or bicycle to work (no on-campus car parking is available).
Expectations
Students will enter the working world for the summer. They will have an established time schedule, complete jobs in agreed-upon time frames, and follow laboratory standards or guidelines. Awardees will prepare a poster in science format that describes a project they carried out at the Oregon Institute. The best basic and applied science posters receive awards.
