Greetings,
I hope everyone has had a nice transition back to school this semester. I wanted to encourage each of you to make a simple New Semester’s Resolution that involves science education, and it is this:
DO SOMETHING NEW THIS SEMSTER
It is easy to always stick to the same schedule: sit in a classroom and lab, go back to your dorm, study, meet up with friends, eat at the commons. Humans are creatures of habits, but our brains thrive on creativity and exploring new things. So, set a goal this year to give your brain a chance to change, explore, push the limits, see things in a new light by DOING SOMETHING NEW THIS SEMESTER.
Here are some ideas on what you can do to DO SOMETHING NEW
1. DO…a Science Talk: Make a plan to see at least one out-of-class lecture this semester. We have several coming to campus, but you can also check out OHSU or OMSI for additional meaningful science talks.
2. DO…a Volunteer event: Make a plan to get off campus and help your community through volunteer work. You’ll meet new people, explore new options, and possibly grow new connections:)
3. DO…watch a TED talk: These talks can spark your interests in a new topic, confirm your passion for a specific field, or just give you a thought to ponder over dinner with your friends.
I’m sure you can come up with zillions of other ideas…if you do make this resolution ..and fulfill it…send me an email and we’ll feature you in our next newsletter!
