Our loving thoughts and prayers are with Brian Doyle, beloved Portland author and brilliant mastermind behind the Beckman Humor Project, as he battles a serious illness. Brian recently took a leave of absence from his position at the University of Portland to undergo surgery and spend time with his family.
As Brian shared in a recent interview with the UP Beacon, what he really wants is for people to keep laughing. He asked, “Be tender to each other. Be more tender than you were yesterday, that’s what I would like. You want to help me? Be tender and laugh.”
The Doyle family has requested prayers at this time, and letters or cards of support can be sent to:

Friends of the Doyles have also set up a GoFundMe site for Brian’s medical care.
